computer kilobyte calculator

Calculate K Values in Base10 and Base2.

There Appears To Be A Mis-understanding Amongst New Computer Users about The Value of k etc.
Even Those in Education are Getting it Wrong, Quotes in Base10 Values For Memory etc.
Also Salesmen Advertise Disk Drives as Having More Capacity on Them, Than What There Really Is !!

The Value of 1 K in Base10 is 1000, But in Base2 it is 1024!!!!

Britain Under European Rule Has Lost its Right To Trade in Pounds (lbs) and Ounces (ozs), In Favour of The Metric System. Kilo = 1000 etc.
How Long Before The Bureaucrats Declare Base2 Kilo = 1024 bytes illegal Because of the Difference?
Computers Need The Binary System To Function.. Its Simple Electronics, On or Off.
It May Be Maths! But!! "You Canner Change The Law's of Physics" (-: (-:

My Tables and Calculator Show The Differences.

Base 10 Values.(For Metric and Standard Maths)
kilo or k = 1k = 103 = 1,000
mega or M = 1,000k = 106 = 1,000,000
giga or G = 1,000,000k = 109 = 1,000,000,000
tera or T = 1,000,000,000k = 1012 = 1,000,000,000,000

Base 2 Values.(For Computer Disks & Memory)
kilo or k = 1k = 210 = 1,024 bytes
mega or M = 1,024k = 220 = 1,048,576 bytes
giga or G = 1,048,576k = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes
tera or T = 1,073,741,824k = 240 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes

On Comparison Of The Two Tables per Prefix, There is One Heck of a Difference in The T Unit.
Large Mainframe Computer Sites Quite Often Measure Their Disk Space in terabytes, So They Need To Get It Right..
Computer Memory, Once Measured in K bytes but now in M bytes Can Be Mis-Quoted.
Example 128M Calculates :-
128 * 1024k * 1024k = 134,277,728 bytes NOT 128,000,000 bytes.

Note.. A Byte is 8 Binary Bits In Which A Computer Can Represent 1 Character..

I Have Coded a Calculator For Experimentation, The Numbers You Type In Represent One K units (1000 or 1024) Dependent on The Base Selected. As With Normal Calculators The "e" That May Appear in The Result Refers To The Exponent..

Input Will Be Auto Edited and Profiled To Pattern nnn, nnn, nnn etc. Rounded to n.nnn Precision.
Use Mouse and Tab To Navigate.. Thanks!

1. Select Base2 or Base10 Values. :-
2. Enter The Number of Ks :-
